South Korea’s “athletics goddess” Kim Min Gee recently addressed plastic surgery rumors after a past photo of her went viral online, sparking heated debate among netizens.
On February 28, Kim uploaded a new video on her YouTube channel where she opened up about the controversy and clarified speculation regarding cosmetic procedures. The rumors began circulating after an old photo resurfaced on social media. In the image, Kim appeared noticeably different, with slightly protruding teeth and facial features that looked less refined compared to her current visuals, according to Koreaboo.
In the video, Kim firmly denied undergoing plastic surgery. She explained that the viral photo was taken immediately after she had braces removed, which caused her mouth to protrude temporarily.
“I have never had plastic surgery. When I saw that photo, I was shocked too. It was taken right after I finished orthodontic treatment, so my mouth looked very protruded. Of course, no one becomes beautiful just from braces. I did get fillers, and I didn’t expect I would look this much better with just braces and filler,” she shared candidly.
Kim added that she only received filler injections in her nose and forehead, emphasizing that she has never gone under the knife. Her straightforward confession drew positive responses from viewers, with many praising her honesty and complimenting her upgraded visuals despite minimal enhancements.
Born in 1996 in Cheongju, Kim Min Gee is a former track and field athlete turned social media influencer. She earned the nicknames “athletics goddess” and “the Karina of track and field” due to her resemblance to Karina of aespa.
Kim graduated from Chungbuk Sports High School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Changwon National University. She won gold medals in the women’s 400-meter event at the National Sports Festival in 2017, 2018, and 2019, establishing herself as a prominent name in Korean athletics before transitioning into online fame.
Her popularity recently surged further after appearing on the hit dating reality show Single’s Inferno Season 5. During the program, Kim gained attention for her confident and straightforward personality, openly expressing her feelings toward the contestant she liked.
In the finale, she chose Seung Il, a 2001-born contestant, as her final match. However, Kim later revealed that the two stopped contacting each other after the show concluded.
Despite the controversy surrounding her past photos, Kim Min Gee’s candid clarification appears to have strengthened public support, with many applauding her transparency and natural charm.
