Chinese actor Yang Yang is once again at the center of online discussion as his upcoming historical drama 不讓江山 (Bu Rang Jiang Shan) faces mounting controversy even before its official release.
The drama, adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Zhi Bai, has drawn attention not only for its star-studded cast but also for a series of unexpected issues. On the first day of filming, Yang Yang appeared at the opening ceremony with a visible hand fracture, surprising fans and sparking concern about his health. Shortly after, rumors began circulating online alleging the existence of a so-called “dual script,” suggesting that certain actors were given additional screen time at the expense of the male lead.

As speculation intensified, the production team released an official statement on the 23rd, apologizing for the leak of unfinished materials and the anxiety it caused among viewers. The team emphasized that from the earliest stages of preparation, audience expectations had been a top priority. They firmly stated that the character Li Chi, portrayed by Yang Yang, remains the creative core of the series, with significant effort invested in shaping the character’s personality and narrative arc.
Addressing the “dual script” and “private scene additions” allegations, the production categorically denied the claims, asserting that all cast members are working from the same script. They clarified that the version circulating online is not the finalized draft and that costume and styling designs are still being refined. The statement also urged netizens not to spread unofficial or confidential content, calling for a respectful and stable creative environment.

Regarding Yang Yang’s injury, the production explained that his hand was injured prior to joining the set and that filming schedules have been adjusted accordingly. The team stressed that his health and safety remain their top priority and that they are closely monitoring his recovery. Online rumors suggesting otherwise were described as false.
Yang Yang himself previously reassured fans on Weibo, writing that the fracture was accidental and that he is currently recovering well. He thanked supporters for their concern and promised to take good care of himself.

Directed by Fei Zhenxiang, Ming Yan, and Wang Wentao, Bu Rang Jiang Shan also stars Zhai Zilu and Zhou Jieqiong. The historical political drama tells the story of Li Chi, who leads his army to defend Jizhou and protect its people during a turbulent struggle for power, determined to end war through decisive battle.
With controversies erupting ahead of its premiere, Bu Rang Jiang Shan has already become a hot topic in entertainment circles. Whether the drama can overcome the pre-release storm and deliver on its ambitious narrative remains to be seen.
