On the January 14 broadcast of KBS CoolFM’s Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show, Choi Ji Woo appeared alongside actor Min Jin Woong, her co-star in the film Sugar, as part of the show’s “Legendary Masters” segment. The three engaged in a relaxed and lively conversation, sharing stories about their current projects as well as behind-the-scenes anecdotes from their past careers.

During the show, Park Myung Soo brought up Winter Sonata, directly asking Choi Ji Woo, “Didn’t you achieve enormous success with Winter Sonata? It’s well known that Bae Yong Joon made a lot of money from that drama, so I’m curious did you also earn a significant income from it?”

Caught off guard by the blunt question, Choi Ji Woo laughed and appeared momentarily flustered. “I didn’t expect you to ask so directly,” she said before carefully responding.

She went on to recall the scale of the Japanese market at the time, explaining that “Japan was a huge market back then, and thanks to that, I worked there a lot and filmed many commercials.” She acknowledged that Winter Sonata played a major role in igniting the Korean Wave in Japan and became a major turning point in her career.

While confirming that she did receive a great deal of love from Japanese audiences during that period, Choi Ji Woo modestly added, “It’s true that I was very well received in Japan at the time, but I didn’t earn as much as Bae Yong Joon.”

Park Myung Soo responded with a laugh, saying, “Even so, it must have been quite substantial,” keeping the atmosphere light and humorous as the conversation continued.
