Biography
Kim Dong-young (김동영), known professionally as Doyoung, is a South Korean singer, actor, and entertainer. He is best known as a vocalist of the boy group NCT and its sub-units, including NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DoJaeJung, under SM Entertainment. In addition to his group activities, Doyoung has established himself as a solo artist and stage performer.
Career
Pre-Debut and NCT U Debut
Doyoung joined SM Entertainment as a trainee and was introduced as part of SM Rookies, a pre-debut training group. He made his official debut on April 9, 2016 as a member of NCT U, a rotational unit of NCT, with the digital singles The 7th Sense and Without You.
NCT 127 and Sub-Unit Activities
In January 2017, Doyoung was announced as a member of NCT 127, the Seoul-based fixed sub-unit of NCT, where he serves as one of the group’s main vocalists. He has contributed to numerous NCT 127 albums, performances, and global tours.
He is also a member of NCT DoJaeJung, a sub-unit formed in 2023 that showcases more vocal-focused and R&B-oriented tracks.
Solo Career (2024–2025)
Doyoung began his solo career in April 2024 with the release of his debut studio album Youth on April 22, 2024. The album features ten tracks and marked him as one of the few NCT members to transition into solo artistry. The lead single Little Light won first place on the music program Show Champion in May 2024. Doyoung also embarked on his first solo concert tour, “Dear Youth,” spanning multiple cities throughout 2024.
In June 2025, he released his second studio album, Soar, featuring the lead single Memory, further reinforcing his identity as a solo artist beyond group activities. Soar performed well on music charts and solidified his musical presence for 2025.
Additionally, Doyoung held major solo concerts in Seoul in June and again in October 2025, allowing him to connect with fans through live performance.
Acting and Musical Theatre
In addition to his work as a vocalist, Doyoung has steadily expanded his career into acting and musical theatre, demonstrating a growing interest in performance beyond music.
He has ventured into acting with roles in several dramas, a role in the musical “Marie Antoinette” in 2021, and has been a regular member of several variety shows.
