Ahn Sung Ki passed away yesterday morning (January 5) at the age of 74. His wake has been set up at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, and the funeral is being held over five days in the form of a film industry funeral.

The memorial portrait on display was taken by renowned photographer Koo Bon Chang during the filming of Our Joyful Young Days. It is reported to be the photograph Ahn Sung Ki’s wife cherished the most.

The official bereaved family includes his wife Oh So Young and his sons Ahn Da Bin and Ahn Phillip. However, Jung Woo Sung and Lee Jung Jae both junior actors and members of Artist Company, the agency Ahn Sung Ki was affiliated with in his later years have been standing alongside the family to welcome visitors.

On the evening of the same day, the two actors also witnessed Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi Young visiting the funeral hall to posthumously confer the Order of Cultural Merit (Geumgwan) upon the late actor.

As soon as the wake was opened, a steady stream of prominent figures paid their respects in person, including Ahn Sung Ki’s longtime friend Cho Yong Pil, actor Park Joong Hoon, former Busan International Film Festival chairman Kim Dong Ho, Park Jung Ja, Tae Jin Ah, Choi Soo Jong, Park Sang Won, Lee Ki Young, Kwon Sang Woo, Shin Hyun Joon, Song Seung Heon, Kim Dong Hyun, Keo Ryong, director Lee Joon Ik, critic Lim Jin Mo, Cho Kuk of the Rebuilding Korea Party, and Bae Hyun Jin of the People Power Party.

At the funeral procession on January 9, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Jung Jae, and other junior filmmakers will serve as pallbearers. The late actor will be laid to rest at Byeolgeurida in Yangpyeong.
