According to Sina, Zhao Wei recently made a surprise appearance during a livestream for her own liquor brand, which has reportedly become one of her primary sources of income. Previously, she had only interacted with fans by calling into livestreams, but after fans expressed a desire to see her in person, Zhao Wei unexpectedly showed up on the brand’s broadcast.

Sina noted that her appearance on Douyin, one of China’s largest livestream platforms, suggests that restrictions surrounding the actress have been significantly eased. After suddenly having her name removed from film credits and awards listings several years ago, Zhao Wei disappeared from all major Chinese social media platforms for more than three years. During that time, she only updated fans through her Instagram account overseas.

Zhao Wei no longer blacklisted China

Additional signs point to a shift in her status. Recently, My Fair Princess – the iconic drama that made Zhao Wei a household name was registered for an official Weibo account by Hunan Television for the first time in 28 years, listing the full original cast. In the past, Zhao Wei’s name had been removed from the series’ official records, making this development particularly noteworthy and widely interpreted as evidence that she is no longer blacklisted.

Over the past year, Zhao Wei has also been frequently spotted at airports traveling to various destinations. Observers have noted that her relaxed demeanor suggests she has not been visibly affected by a string of legal defeats or reports of frozen assets. Earlier financial troubles reportedly caused several of her companies to collapse in a chain reaction, leaving her unable to repay debts after losing multiple lawsuits.

However, controversy continues to follow her. A social media account named Jin Yi Consulting accused Zhao Wei of hiding assets overseas while leaving debts in China, claiming she had found ways to evade repayment and continue living comfortably. These allegations have not been officially confirmed.

Zhao Wei has also been linked to rumors involving human trafficking networks in Myanmar. Her brother responded on her behalf, firmly denying the claims and stating that legal action would be taken against media outlets and individuals spreading false information intended to damage her reputation.

Chinese media outlets suggest that her brother’s proactive legal stance against defamatory rumors, combined with Zhao Wei’s increasing visibility in public and online spaces, may indicate a potential return to the entertainment industry as she seeks to rebuild her career and income streams.
