Jo Bo-ah’s background is once again drawing attention, revealing a lesser-known side of her life. Although she comes from a well-off family—her father runs a dental clinic in Daejeon—he has kept a low profile about her celebrity status, leading her to be dubbed a “golden spoon no one in the neighborhood knew.” With her recent announcement of marriage and pregnancy, her family and debut story are also being revisited.

Jo Bo-ah’s entry into acting was relatively swift. Initially pursuing her dream of becoming a flight attendant, she enrolled in the aviation department at Hanseo University. However, after discovering her interest in acting, she transferred to the Performing Arts Department at Sungkyunkwan University to formally begin her training. Her first appearance on screen came in 2011 as a minor role in JTBC’s I Live in Cheongdam-dong.

In 2012, during her participation in JTBC’s idol audition program Made in U, she landed the lead role in tvN’s Flower Band, marking the official start of her acting career. Though she had little acting experience at the time, she steadily built her filmography through various dramas and variety shows, gaining attention for her bright, wholesome image and calm demeanor.

Her appearance and gentle charm are often attributed to her upbringing. When she wanted to get braces to fix her front teeth, her father, a dentist, refused because it would mean removing perfectly healthy teeth. He preferred maintaining her natural facial structure and harmony, a decision that later led to her being praised as a “natural beauty.”

Her father’s convictions also extended to how he handled her fame. Despite her growing popularity, he has never displayed Jo Bo-ah’s photos or autographs in his clinic, nor does he talk about her with patients. This discreet attitude mirrors Jo Bo-ah’s modest and grounded public image.

In a YouTube video from Shin Dong-yup’s Zzanbro released on May 19, Jo Bo-ah opened up about her family. Actress Uhm Ji-won commented, “Bo-ah has a naturally bright and warm energy,” while actor Park Byung-eun added that Uhm had once said, “She seems like someone who grew up surrounded by love.”

Uhm Ji-won then brought up Jo Bo-ah’s father, joking that he’s the reason behind her perfect teeth. Shin Dong-yup confirmed he is a dentist. Jo Bo-ah shyly admitted, “I received a lot of love growing up. There are two daughters in the family, so we’re very close-knit and united.”

Jo Bo-ah also shared details about her debut, saying, “I was preparing to become a flight attendant but ended up trying acting by chance.” She recalled struggling early on, saying, “I was clueless when I started acting. After experiencing some setbacks, I became more determined and started going to many auditions.” Despite not having much preparation time before debuting, she has steadily expanded her career through persistence and diverse roles.

Most recently, Jo Bo-ah shared that she is expecting her first child one year after her marriage. Her agency, XYZ Studio, officially announced the news on November 25, saying, “A precious new life has come to Jo Bo-ah. We ask for your warm support and blessings.” The agency did not disclose details about the due date but confirmed she plans to return to acting after giving birth.

Jo Bo-ah tied the knot with a non-celebrity in October 2024 and continued to act in dramas such as Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 and Dear Hongrang. However, her upcoming Disney+ series Knock-Off, co-starring Kim Soo-hyun, is currently on hold due to controversy involving her co-star’s personal life.

With major changes in her personal life, fans are now curious about when Jo Bo-ah will return to the screen.
