leon jay williams cancer diagnosis

Taiwanese actor Leon Jay Williams, often called Taiwan’s “most handsome actor,” opened up about his cancer diagnosis, describing the moment he received the news as feeling like the sky had fallen. In an interview on December 8, he admitted his mind was filled with pessimism, fearing he might not survive long enough to see his only daughter grow up.

Leon revealed that during a family trip to an Indonesian island in August, he began experiencing lower back pain. Initial medical examinations showed no abnormalities, but he was advised to undergo a full-body checkup. An MRI later revealed a malignant 3 cm tumor in his thyroid.

In September, Leon underwent two surgeries to remove the tumor, measuring 3 cm and 1.1 cm respectively. He shared: “Currently, 99% of the tumor has been removed, but there is still a risk of metastasis. Nodules were found in my lungs, so I need further monitoring and treatment, including monthly medication.”

The sudden onset of the illness forced Leon to confront the situation quickly. Over the past three months, he has undergone radiation therapy and surgeries. To protect his family from potential radiation exposure, he temporarily moved to live alone in another home.

Leon also revealed that treatment at a private hospital costs around 4 million TWD over six months. He has lost 3 kg since his surgeries. Despite facing a lifelong condition requiring ongoing monitoring, he remains optimistic: “I will receive the necessary treatment, and I will continue to do what I normally do. That is life.”

Leon Jay Williams was born in Singapore with mixed English, German, Chinese, and Japanese ancestry. He began his career as a model and won the 2001 Mister World title. He mainly works in Taiwanese television and film.

In his acting career, Leon gained recognition for his lead role in La Robe De Mariee Des Cieux alongside Ming Dao and Cyndi Wang, earning the title of Taiwan’s “most handsome actor” for his strong and charismatic image. He later starred in Green Forest, My Home and My Lucky Star, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after romantic male leads of the 2000s. In recent years, his career has slowed.

Leon married his longtime girlfriend Joyce after nine years of dating, and the couple has a daughter together.
