In a recent interview held on November 26 ahead of the finale of tvN’s weekend drama Typhoon Family, Kim Min Ha opened up about the painful experiences that once shook her confidence but ultimately helped shape her resilience.
“When I started acting in my 20s, things didn’t go my way. I heard so many cruel comments like, ‘You should just give up,’ ‘Lose weight,’ ‘Get rid of your freckles,’ ‘Get plastic surgery,’ and ‘That’s why you’ll never make it,’” she recalled. “Those words really hurt me back then, but looking back, they became major motivators. If I hadn’t heard them, I might not have refined myself the way I have.”

Kim admitted she often spiraled into sadness, “I used to sink into a dark place alone and let myself feel everything but going through that over and over again made me stronger little by little.”
She added that her healing came through self-reflection: “I try to look inward more. I ask myself, what am I doing well right now? What do I still need? Seeing those things objectively helps me find balance.”

In Typhoon Family, Kim Min Ha played Oh Mi Seon, the bookkeeper of Typhoon Company, opposite lead actor Lee Junho, who portrayed rookie CEO Kang Taepoong. The drama, set during the 1997 IMF financial crisis, depicted Kang’s journey of growth and transformation.
The series concluded on November 30 with a nationwide rating of 10.3% (Nielsen Korea, paid households), marking its highest viewership and cementing its success. Kim Min Ha’s nuanced portrayal added emotional depth to the show, and her personal story now offers a deeper layer of inspiration beyond the screen.
