Super Junior’s Siwon has found himself at the center of controversy after his recent behavior during TikTok live broadcasts sparked outrage among fans and netizens alike.
The idol, known for his long-standing career as both a singer and actor, has recently been hosting frequent TikTok live sessions, often interacting with random users who may not be familiar with his celebrity status.
During one of these live sessions, Siwon introduced himself as “Kim Jong Un’s cousin,” referring to the North Korean leader. The comment quickly circulated online, with many netizens expressing shock and disapproval at what they considered to be inappropriate and insensitive humor.
“How could he say something like that publicly?” one fan commented on Twitter.
“It’s unbelievable that he faces no repercussions for this” another wrote.
Fans argued that such remarks were reckless and disrespectful, particularly for a public figure representing one of K-pop’s most senior idol groups.
The backlash intensified after another live session in which Siwon appeared alongside Super Junior leader Leeteuk. During the stream, Siwon explained how to send TikTok gifts – virtual items that translate into real monetary value.
Viewers found the act inappropriate and tone-deaf, especially considering Siwon’s personal wealth and Leeteuk’s previous decision to turn off that feature. Many accused him of promoting fan spending unnecessarily.
“He’s already rich; why is he teaching fans to send gifts?” one netizen questioned.
“This is embarrassing behavior for someone of his status,” another added.
As more clips circulated online, fans began compiling other examples of Siwon’s questionable behavior on TikTok, describing them as “disgusting,” “attention-seeking,” and “damaging to Super Junior’s image.”
The controversy has escalated to the point where some fans are calling for Siwon’s temporary suspension or removal from group activities, citing that his actions are “tarnishing the group’s legacy.”
As of now, Label SJ, Super Junior’s management agency under SM Entertainment, has not issued an official statement addressing the issue. Fans continue to demand accountability, urging Siwon to clarify his remarks and reconsider his behavior on social media.
