A controversial audio recording, reportedly involving legendary Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai and screenwriter Qin Wen, has ignited a firestorm across the Chinese entertainment industry.
Released by former scriptwriter C, who previously claimed to have contributed to the hit drama Blossoms Shanghai, the audio exposes behind-the-scenes conversations that allegedly criticize major celebrities and reveal favoritism, casting manipulation, and power dynamics.

The latest clip, posted in late October 2025, follows a previous recording from September. According to C, he decided to publish the files because he was denied credit for the original script. His stated goal: “Let the public know the truth behind the spotlight.”
Within hours of release, the term “Victim list of the Wong Kar-wai – Qin Wen audio” trended on Chinese social media, gaining over 31 million interactions.
“Tang Yan is fake, Liu Shishi sidelined, Ni Ni has backers”
The recording includes sharp criticisms allegedly voiced by Wong Kar-wai and Qin Wen about several stars involved in Blossoms Shanghai.

Actress Tang Yan was described by the director as “someone who loves to show off. Don’t let her arrive on set first—others should arrive before her.” This implied that her behavior on set was overly performative.
Meanwhile, Liu Shishi was mentioned in connection to the drama My Best Friend’s Story. Qin Wen reportedly said “Ni Ni got Liu Shishi’s iconic lines” and hinted at favoritism by adding, “Ni Ni doesn’t need to come to me—I’m always in charge of her matters.” This sparked speculation that Ni Ni received special treatment due to powerful connections.

Veteran Actor Chen Daoming Also Criticized
The scandal didn’t stop with actresses. Revered actor Chen Daoming was also mentioned in earlier audio released in September 2025.
The recording implied that Wong Kar-wai wanted him in Blossoms Shanghai, but the actor declined. Qin Wen mocked him, stating: “He pretends to be philosophical, likes recommending books but doesn’t read them. Always wants to revise lines but can’t memorize long scripts.”

At the time, the Blossoms production team condemned the unauthorized recordings, calling them a violation of privacy and reputation. Although the original uploader’s social media was blocked, the audio clips spread rapidly across platforms.
What Lies Beneath the “Blossoms”
Blossoms Shanghai was once hailed as Wong Kar-wai’s most ambitious TV project, boasting A-list stars, a 1990s Shanghai backdrop, and his signature visual artistry.
But the lengthy production process, changes in the scriptwriting team, and ongoing disputes have now overshadowed the show’s artistic aspirations.
This scandal adds another layer of intrigue to Blossoms, turning it from an acclaimed drama into the centerpiece of an industry-wide controversy.

Although the authenticity of the recordings is under investigation, the incident has exposed the hidden power struggles and pressures behind China’s glamorous film and television industry.
Despite publicly praising his cast during press conferences, Wong Kar-wai’s alleged private remarks paint a different picture—one that may alter how fans view the project and the people behind it.
As the dust settles, Blossoms is no longer just a drama—it has become a symbol of the entertainment world’s deepest rifts.
