In the steamy, conflicted world of Netflix’s Sex/Life, Billie Connelly is often viewed as the show’s emotional core. But the more times I watched the series, the more my admiration shifted to someone else – Sasha Snow, Billie’s best friend. Sasha may not conform to society’s expectations, but she lives deeply, responsibly, and unapologetically in tune with her emotions.
The Woman Who Chose a Different Path
Where Billie constantly wrestles with motherhood, marriage, and desire, Sasha boldly chooses freedom. She’s single by choice, financially independent, and unafraid to live outside traditional norms. A psychology professor, Sasha embraces love without allowing it to define her. She doesn’t reject romance, but she doesn’t revolve around it either.

What makes Sasha compelling isn’t her rejection of marriage or domesticity – it’s her unwavering honesty. She doesn’t pretend to be fine or chase after an idealised life. Instead, she embodies modern freedom with a strong emotional compass. Even in fleeting romances, she knows her boundaries. She loves without losing herself and sits with loneliness without feeling empty.

When an ex from her youth reappears, tempting her with memories of passion, Sasha doesn’t spiral. She recognises that maturity isn’t about forgetting the past – it’s about knowing when to stop. In a world where being unmarried is still judged harshly, Sasha represents a generation of women who choose differently and own that choice fully.

She isn’t flawless. She’s made mistakes, faced heartbreak, and questioned herself. But it’s that raw self-awareness that makes her shine. With every scene, Sasha channels the essence of someone who understands the true meaning of freedom – that happiness doesn’t require a wedding ring or children.
“Freedom is when you no longer need to prove you’re happy.”
The Woman Behind Sasha: Margaret Odette
Sasha Snow comes to life through the captivating performance of Margaret Odette, an American actress of Haitian descent, born in Harlem on 27 September 1995. A graduate of Brown University and NYU Tisch’s prestigious MFA acting programme known for alumni like Lady Gaga and Adam Driver Odette brings complexity and poise to the role.

Before her TV debut, Margaret was a prominent figure in New York theatre, starring in productions like Much Ado About Nothing, She Kills Monsters, and The Convent. According to the Geffen Playhouse, she is known for her psychological depth and magnetic stage presence.
In an interview with My Imperfect Life, she revealed that Sasha’s arc in season 2 was more introspective, exploring “her own pursuit of happiness while staying true to her independence and confidence.”
“Sasha is the kind of woman I aspire to be – bold, honest, unafraid of being misunderstood,” she shared.
Speaking to Popternative, she added:
“What I love about Sasha is that she’s not perfect. She gets lost, she’s stubborn at times, but always honest. Women need to see more characters like that.”

Outside of acting, Margaret is involved with The 52nd Street Project, a non-profit that introduces children and teens to the performing arts in New York. She’s private off-screen, preferring to read and write plays.
“I believe women don’t have to choose between career and happiness. True joy is living authentically,” she once wrote on her personal page.
Through her grounded yet fierce portrayal, Margaret Odette transforms Sasha Snow into one of the most empowering characters on television – a woman who dares to love, dares to be alone, and most of all, dares to be true to herself. She may not be the show’s lead, but she’s undoubtedly its soul.
