Taiwanese boy band Energy is facing a massive blow to their long-anticipated comeback, as the ongoing military evasion scandal involving several entertainers deepens. Nearly 100 commercial gigs including year-end parties and New Year’s Eve performances have reportedly been cancelled through to June 2026, costing the group an estimated NT$50 million in lost income.
The fallout is linked to the growing “military draft dodging” controversy that has shaken Taiwan’s entertainment industry in recent weeks. Though Energy’s endorsement deals with Chunghwa Telecom and PX Mart remain unchanged for now, the broader commercial damage continues to mount.

The scandal’s reach may soon extend across the strait. As seen with actor Darren Wang, who was previously blacklisted from the Chinese market over military evasion allegations, Energy may now face similar scrutiny. If placed on a blacklist in mainland China, their potential earnings could suffer losses exceeding NT$100 million.
While event organisers such as Mixed Blood Entertainment which runs the South-North Route Music Festival with 911 have stated they will not seek penalties from Energy’s agency, citing respect for their industry seniors, the reality remains grim. According to insiders, the reputational damage is far from over.

Among the group members, KunDa is expected to take the hardest financial hit, with a projected loss in the tens of millions. Member ShuWei, who has publicly admitted to forging medical documents 15 years ago to obtain an exemption, expressed remorse:
“I knew this day would come. I wanted to turn myself in, but I was afraid. I made a poor example and disappointed the public. I’ll cooperate fully with the investigation and take responsibility.”
His wife, actress Orange Hsieh, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram:
“The rain fell hard and fast, but I’m grateful for those who held umbrellas for us. Muddy paths often lead to challenges and growth.”

The scandal, dubbed a “military dodging tsunami,” continues to spread. Other artists and entertainers, including those who recently celebrated career highs like winning Golden Bell Awards, now find themselves embroiled in controversy, leading to further cancellations such as the New Taipei Christmasland event.
As the investigation unfolds, the future of Energy’s revival and the careers of many implicated stars hangs in the balance.
