Taiwanese actor-singer Jimmy Lin has once again become a trending topic on Weibo but this time, not for his enduring charm or talent. Instead, fans are buzzing about his questionable fashion choice during his guest performance at fellow artist Alex To’s 40th anniversary concert.
A video of Lin performing at the concert on October 22 went viral, with the hashtag “Jimmy Lin, please throw away those pants” attracting tens of thousands of posts. The 51-year-old star appeared in an outfit featuring diagonal-striped pants, which many viewers felt distorted his proportions during the energetic performance.
Netizens commented that the pants made Lin who stands 1.72 meters tall appear shorter, with some joking that the design “sabotaged his legendary visuals.” One fan wrote:
“He’s still handsome, but those pants are a crime against fashion.”
Despite the wardrobe criticism, many fans defended Lin’s appearance, saying his face and demeanor remain strikingly youthful for his age. This was a rare occasion where Lin often praised for his impeccable image received negative remarks about his fashion sense.
Jimmy Lin rose to fame across Asia in the 1990s and early 2000s through hit works such as Shaolin Popey, My Lucky Star, and the classic 2003 drama Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, where he portrayed Duan Yu. His boyish charm earned him the nickname “Prince of Taiwan.”
After marrying model Kelly Chen in 2009, Lin gradually stepped back from the spotlight to focus on family life. The couple share three sons the eldest is now 15, and the twins are 10.
In 2022, Lin was involved in a serious car crash when his Tesla collided with a traffic pole and burst into flames. Several bystanders heroically pulled him from the burning vehicle, saving his life. He suffered multiple fractures and a brain injury, requiring extensive surgeries on his arm and facial bones.
Now sporting a faint scar on his forehead, Lin resumed work in 2023, appearing in TV programs and public events. However, he revealed he is still undergoing physical therapy to fully recover.
