A wave of controversy has hit J-pop fandoms as Shosei Ohira of the boy group JO1 is facing accusations of infidelity involving a younger member of ME:I, a girl group under the same label, Lapone Entertainment.

The report was published on October 15 by Shukan Bunshun, a Japanese media outlet known for celebrity exposes. The outlet initially teased that a JO1 member was entangled in a “two-timing scandal,” later revealing Ohira’s name.

According to the report, Ohira had been in a relationship with a non-celebrity woman, referred to as "A", for some time. However, in May of this year, while tidying his home, the girlfriend allegedly discovered a handwritten letter from a ME:I member. The contents expressed deep affection for Ohira and included phrases like “I hope we can be together forever.”

The situation reportedly escalated in September, when Ohira allegedly attempted to hide his communications with the girl group member by labeling the messages under his manager’s name in his phone. The deception unraveled when additional evidence came to light, including a “pledge” between Ohira and his then-girlfriend — possibly a written agreement tied to their relationship.
Lapone Entertainment is said to have acknowledged both the relationship and the existence of the pledge, though details remain limited.
JO1, formed in 2020 through Produce 101 Japan, rose to fame as part of the Mnet-backed Japanese idol wave. Ohira ranked 4th in the competition’s finale and quickly gained popularity for his clean-cut, boy-next-door image — now shaken by the cheating allegations.
