At the moment, no Korean series is making a bigger splash than Genie, Make a Wish, currently holding the No.1 spot on Netflix Vietnam’s Top 10 chart.

Penned by legendary screenwriter Kim Eun-sook the creative mind behind The Glory — the fantasy romance has been the talk of the town since its debut. And much of that excitement centers around its stunning female lead, Suzy, who reunites with Kim Woo-bin for the first time in nine years since their heartbreaking on-screen love story in Uncontrollably Fond (2016).

In Genie, Make a Wish, Kim Woo-bin plays a mysterious genie who awakens after being called by Ki Ka-young (Suzy) a wealthy young woman suffering from antisocial personality disorder. Raised by her grandmother after being abandoned by her mother, Ki Ka-young hides her emotional scars behind a cold, glamorous exterior.

The drama combines fantasy and romance while delving into deeper themes of human nature compassion, greed, and the duality of good and evil.

Adding to its charm are lighthearted comedic moments and a string of celebrity cameos, including an appearance by Song Hye-kyo, further boosting fan anticipation.

Despite being lauded as one of Korea’s most beautiful actresses, Suzy once faced years of criticism for her “stiff” acting and flat dialogue delivery. Yet over time, she proved her growth through standout roles in Vagabond, Start-Up, Doona!, and especially Anna (2022) where her performance as a morally complex woman earned critical praise.

However, in Genie, Make a Wish, her portrayal of Ki Ka-young has reignited debate. While some viewers argue her expressionless acting suits a character incapable of empathy, others feel she appears more “frozen” than nuanced.

Still, even her critics can’t deny one thing Suzy’s visuals are mesmerizing enough to make audiences stay until the final episode. Her elegance, ethereal beauty, and effortless aura have once again solidified her title as “Nation’s First Love.”

Co-star Kim Woo-bin also couldn’t help but praise her youthful charm, saying that “*Suzy looks exactly the same as she did nine years ago.*” At 31, she has managed to preserve her sweet, fresh beauty while evolving into a more mature and seductive screen presence.

In every frame, whether she’s dressed in designer gowns or casual everyday looks, Suzy glows with natural radiance her beauty alone enough to carry the series.

Visually stunning, emotionally layered, and carried by the irresistible reunion of Suzy and Kim Woo-bin, Genie, Make a Wish captures everything K-drama fans adore love, magic, pain, and breathtaking aesthetics.

And even if Suzy’s acting divides opinions once again, her sheer screen presence proves one thing: sometimes, beauty truly is a kind of magic.
