On October 2, Elle UK posted a solo photo of Rosé on social media, captioned: “The most standout look came courtesy of Blackpink star Rosé.”
Rosé also updated her SNS the same day, sharing pictures from the Saint Laurent 2026 S/S Women’s Collection Show in Paris. She thanked creative director Anthony Vaccarello, writing: “Thank you for inviting me to such an amazing show. Your work is truly beautiful. Love you.”
Despite Elle UK’s post, fans’ anger has not subsided. Comments flooded in, saying: “It’s too late,” “At least issue a formal apology,” and “This is racism.”
The controversy began when Elle UK uploaded a photo featuring Charli XCX, Hailey Bieber, and Zoë Kravitz, but cropped Rosé out. In addition, Charli XCX shared an image where Rosé was visibly darkened in shadow, and Hailey Bieber later reposted the same picture on Instagram Stories. Fans across Korea, Asia, and the globe criticized these posts as discriminatory. Comments in multiple languages called out the actions as “racist behavior.”
The controversy soon extended to others. Charli XCX drew criticism after sharing a photo where Rosé was obscured in shadow. In response to the backlash, she uploaded more pictures, including lighthearted selfies with Rosé, but skepticism lingered. The criticism deepened when Vogue Japan released a video of Charli turning away from Rosé to engage with others, reinforcing perceptions that Rosé was being excluded. Hailey Bieber also reignited anger after sharing the original photo that excluded Rosé.
Rosé, who attended the event as Saint Laurent’s global ambassador, sat in the front row alongside international celebrities. Instead of celebrating her presence, however, the incidents have sparked an ongoing debate over racial bias in Western media and fashion coverage.
