MBC is set to introduce a brand-new fantasy romance sageuk just as it struggles with dramas stuck at 1% viewership ratings. Following Mary Kills People and To The Moon, which failed to rise above single digits, the network is betting on star power for its next project: Kim Se-jeong and Kang Tae-oh.

Titled Moon River, the series marks Kim Se-jeong’s first-ever historical drama role in her 10-year career since debuting in 2016. Known for her charming romantic comedy roles, Se-jeong will step into the shoes of Park Dal-yi, a wandering merchant who loses her memory — and eventually her soul.

Opposite her is Kang Tae-oh, making his small-screen comeback after completing military service, as Crown Prince Lee Kang, a man who has lost his laughter.

The drama’s central hook lies in its body-swap twist. Through an unexpected turn of fate, Park Dal-yi and Crown Prince Lee Kang exchange souls, forcing them to live each other’s lives. The show is described as a “chaotic body-swap romance with polar opposite characters.”

Teaser posters highlight this dynamic: one features Lee Kang coldly holding Dal-yi like a paper doll, while another flips the script, with Dal-yi donning royal robes and cheekily holding a miniaturized Lee Kang.

A special poster further teases their chemistry, showing Lee Kang perched on Dal-yi’s traditional hat as a playful illustrated landscape unfolds behind them.

The casting of Kim Se-jeong and Kang Tae-oh has already generated excitement, with fans calling them a “trustworthy rom-com duo.” Both actors have proven track records in romance dramas, and viewers are eager to see how they’ll bring the humor, heart, and sparks to a historical fantasy setting.

Moon River premieres October 31 at 9:50 p.m. KST on MBC, promising laughter, romance, and a magical twist of fate.
