On September 12, the YouTube channel “Channel 15ya” released a video titled “The No.1 Must-Watch Movie This Year”, featuring director Park Chan Wook along with actors Lee Byung Hun, Son Ye Jin, Lee Sung Min, Park Hee Soon, and Yeom Hye Ran, who star in the film No Other Choice.
During the conversation, the cast discussed working with Park Chan Wook, known for his meticulous direction. Lee Byung Hun admitted, “He gives such difficult instructions—five or six at once—that by the time you’re in front of the camera, you feel overwhelmed.” Son Ye Jin also recalled struggling with detailed notes on intonation and delivery. Despite the challenges, she praised Lee Byung Hun, saying, “Watching him act made me realize he is truly one of the world’s best actors. His expressions set the entire tone of our film.”
Son Ye Jin reflected on receiving the script for the film as her comeback project after marriage and childbirth. At the time, she admitted she was hesitant, but encouragement from actress Lee Min Jung and the knowledge that Lee Byung Hun was attached to the project convinced her to take the role even though it was smaller than she expected. Park Chan Wook added that he revised the script multiple times to ensure Son Ye Jin’s role was meaningful, saying, “I just didn’t want her friends asking why she chose to do it.”
The discussion also touched on the actors’ early careers and theater backgrounds, with Lee Byung Hun recalling how his first attempts at acting during his KBS open audition days were met with laughter because of his stiff delivery.
When asked about travel, Son Ye Jin contrasted her love for vacations with the reality of motherhood, saying, “I’ve always loved traveling, and after finishing a project, I would always go on a trip. But after having children, it’s much harder now.”
