It’s been 11 years since Ladies’ Code member RiSe passed away, and yet, her memory continues to live on in the hearts of fans.
On September 3rd, 2014, at around 1:30 AM, Ladies’ Code was involved in a serious car collision while returning to Seoul after attending the recording of KBS’ “Open Concert” in Daegu. The group’s van reportedly lost its rear wheel in the rain, skidded on the highway, flipped over multiple times, and crashed into a guardrail near the Shingal Junction on the Yeongdong Expressway.
Kwon RiSe was transferred to the intensive care unit and underwent over nine hours of surgery, but passed away four days later, on September 7, at just 23 years old. Member EunB tragically died at the scene.
At the time, police stated that the area had a speed limit of 100 km/h, which should have been reduced to under 80 km/h due to the rainy conditions. It was later revealed that the manager was driving at 55.7 km/h—not exceeding the posted limit, but still considered unsafe given the weather. There were no mechanical defects in the vehicle.
Later, surviving member Lee Sojung said through a broadcast, “An accident happened to my members. We were on our way home from work under heavy rain after finishing our schedule. The manager drove too fast and caused an accident. Two members passed away.”
Kwon RiSe was a fourth-generation Korean born in Japan. Before debuting, she was crowned Miss Korea Japan Jin in 2009 and gained public attention by competing in MBC’s “The Great Birth” in 2010. She officially debuted with Ladies’ Code in March 2013 and helped bring hits like “Bad Girl“, “Pretty Pretty“, and “So Wonderful” to life.
Following the accident, the remaining members—Ashley, Sojung, and Zuny—continued as a trio, always carrying RiSe and EunB in their hearts. September 7, 2025, marks the 11th anniversary of RiSe’s passing. Though the years have passed, her presence remains unforgettable. Her innocent smile, clear vocals, and unfulfilled dreams are remembered by fans, who continue to honor her memory with messages, tributes, and unwavering love.
Today, we remember not just the artist she was, but the bright soul behind the voice. Rest in peace, RiSe.
