Japanese actor Hiroya Shimizu has been arrested on charges of marijuana possession. The news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, as the actor is a well-known name from hit projects like Tokyo Revengers and the popular K-drama co-production, Eye Love You.
The Hiroya Shimizu arrest took place on September 3, when police raided his home in Tokyo after receiving a tip about his drug use. A woman in her 20s who was living with him was also taken into custody on the same charges. Both Shimizu and the woman admitted to possessing marijuana, according to local reports.
Following the news, Shimizu’s agency released a statement apologizing for the concern caused to fans and others. They confirmed that the actor is currently under police investigation and that they are working to confirm the facts through his legal counsel.
Known for his debut in the 2012 film Hatsudo, the 26-year-old actor has built an impressive resume with roles in major films and dramas, including Chihayafuru and the live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho.
