On the August 28th episode of YouTube show ‘Jeongwaja’, Wonyoung made a surprise appearance alongside EXO’s Kai, diving into a grueling military training experience. From cheerful pre-training chatter to collapsing into exhaustion, the idol’s presence was both entertaining and eye-opening. However, the focus quickly shifted to an unexpected detail: her gloves.
Images from the broadcast revealed that Wonyoung wore her work gloves inside out, leading to speculation and debate. Was it a simple mistake, or a strategic move linked to her role as a Bvlgari ambassador — perhaps protecting her hands for the luxury brand?

Theories quickly emerged online. Some netizens argued the inversion was to protect the back of her hands, especially considering her global brand deals. “She’s too smart to make that mistake. She must be protecting her image — and her hands,” read one comment.
However, the truth turned out to be far more mundane — and practical. According to the show and supporting clips, other trainees also wore their gloves the same way. As it turns out, during certain military training drills, wearing gloves backward helps reduce friction and skin damage, especially during rope-based obstacle courses.
Still, the discourse ignited once again what fans and critics alike call the “Wonyoung Effect” — the idea that anything the idol does, no matter how small, becomes a hot topic.
Comments ranged from amused to exasperated:
“What’s the fuss? Others wore them the same way.”
“Her name alone stirs up controversy.”
“She’s literally glowing even in army fatigues.”
“Who else could make a military uniform look like high fashion?”
Despite the speculation, Wonyoung’s attitude remained light-hearted throughout the show. After enduring tough drills like PT training, hill runs, and obstacle challenges, she jokingly regretted volunteering for the experience. Still, her effort drew admiration, particularly from Kai, who noted her impressive spirit.

Meanwhile, IVE continues their promotions, having recently released their 4th mini album “Ive’s Secret” and title track “XOXZ” on August 25.
