Nana, former member of After School and now an actress, recently made headlines by removing her full-body tattoos, leaving only a small “1968” tattoo on her ankle. She explained that her mother asked her to remove them to “see a clean body again,” and since her mother had approved the tattoos initially, she agreed without hesitation.
Nana previously showcased her intricate tattoos, including webs, leaves, and snakes, at the 2022 movie press conference for Confession. In June 2025, she appeared at the press conference for Omniscient Reader with all tattoos removed except the ankle marking. Through her YouTube channel, she shared that removing tattoos along her chest, ribs, and feet was the most painful part of the process.
In contrast, singer Lee Hyori and BTS member Jungkook continue to embrace their tattoos as expressions of personal meaning.
Lee Hyori’s right arm bears the phrase “Walk lightly in the spring, Mother earth is pregnant,” a proverb from the Kiowa tribe in the United States, reflecting her dedication to environmental and animal protection. She also recently revealed couple tattoos with her husband, Lee Sang-soon, showing unique wedding rings over the ink. Hyori has stated she has no regrets about her tattoos, viewing them as meaningful parts of her life.
Similarly, BTS’s Jungkook has numerous tattoos representing significant milestones and values. His first tattoo, spelling “ARMY” across four fingers, honors BTS’s fanbase. Other tattoos include dates and flowers connected to his life story, and a chain of symbols representing his destiny as a singer. He also has the number “7” behind his ear, shared by all seven BTS members as a friendship tattoo. Jungkook explained that tattoos are a reflection of what he wanted at that moment, and removing them would feel like denying his past, showing he has no regrets.
Tattoos can be a personal expression or a mark one may later wish to remove. Given the permanence and challenges of tattoo removal, experts advise making such decisions thoughtfully rather than impulsively.
