The tension between ADOR and NewJeans shows no sign of easing. On August 20, ADOR officially announced the appointment of Lee Do-kyung, formerly Vice President, as its new CEO.
This leadership change comes after failed first-round court mediation in ADOR’s ongoing contract dispute with NewJeans.
In its statement, ADOR explained that the new appointment is intended to strengthen its role as a label specializing in artist management and performances.

Lee Do-kyung, who joined HYBE (formerly Big Hit Entertainment) in 2019, has played a key role in developing IP-based projects. She led HYBE’s IPX division, overseeing artist merchandise, fan experiences, and large-scale collaborations such as THE CITY project, which extended K-pop fandom culture into city-wide experiences.
With her promotion, ADOR aims to move into a more hands-on management system that ensures faster support for artists’ activities.

ADOR claims it invested ₩210 billion in NewJeans, including ₩70 billion for their debut album and ₩20 billion for music videos, arguing the group’s attempt to end the contract is invalid. The court has already barred NewJeans from independent activities without agency approval, with fines of ₩10 billion per violation.
The company also accused former CEO Min Hee-jin of trying to “poach” the group, citing alleged KakaoTalk messages. In response, NewJeans’ legal team argued the real issue is HYBE’s takeover of ADOR after Min’s departure, stressing the members only want the label restored to its pre-2024 structure, not necessarily to leave.

With both sides entrenched, mediation looks unlikely. If unresolved, the court’s October ruling may decide whether NewJeans stay with ADOR or gain independence. Meanwhile, Min Hee-jin’s return appears doubtful as ADOR moves forward under new CEO Lee Do-kyung.
