What once sounded like a joke is now a reality.
Singer and variety star Kim Jong-kook has officially announced his marriage on August 18, 2025, both during the filming of SBS’s Running Man and through a heartfelt letter on his fan café. As fans celebrate the long-awaited news, past comments and TV appearances suggesting a potential marriage are now being re-examined in a new light.
Back on June 29, during an episode of SBS’s My Little Old Boy, Kim chatted about marriage while dining with Heo Kyung-hwan, Jonathan, and Ma Sun-ho during a trip. Heo Kyung-hwan teased, “Didn’t you just buy a house recently? People are saying you’re finally preparing — that it’s a newlywed home.” Kim responded candidly, “That’s not wrong. You need to prepare. You can’t get married without a house.” When Kyung-hwan joked, “So are you revealing your girlfriend? Congratulations on your wedding,” Kim nervously retorted, “Stop. Don’t talk nonsense.”
Then, on July 31, during KBS2’s Problem Child in House, Song Eun-yi brought up the rumors again. “I was shocked reading the article. It said you bought a house as a newlywed home,” she said. Kim laughed it off, “Even if I get married later, of course that’ll be my newlywed home. It’s my house.” When Kim Sook jokingly asked who the bride was, he responded, “There’s no one yet. The bride will move in — that’s what makes it a newlywed home.”
As of August 18, all that teasing has come full circle.
Kim officially posted, “This is something I always imagined writing someday, but now that I am, I’m overwhelmed and nervous. Yes, I’m getting married.” He added, “This year marks the 30th anniversary of my debut. I didn’t make the album I wanted — I made my other half instead. Though it may be late, I’m glad I’m doing this now. Thank you for your support. I’ll live well and keep working hard.”
The wedding will be held quietly in Seoul, with only close friends and family. Meanwhile, Kim is preparing a 30th anniversary commemorative album and a concert in October 2025, promising fans that his music career remains a top priority.
