On August 8, Goo Hye-sun posted on her social media, recalling the difficult process of her divorce, “During the divorce process between my former spouse and me, conflicting claims were made, and we ultimately reached an agreement not to pursue the truth. While this may not have been a genuine reconciliation, it was an implicit promise and a matter of human decency. Divorce is inherently selfish and difficult, as it involves both parties claiming to be the victim.”

She criticized the ongoing indirect mentions, “Despite the divorce having ended poorly, continuous and indirect references—comments that walk the fine line between jokes and serious remarks—are cowardly. For those in the industry who make such remarks, as well as those who create sensational gossip programs that provoke these comments or offer consolations, please realize that this is secondary harm to the person involved and inflicts deep wounds.”
Goo emphasized that even entertainment should have a conscience, “Even if it’s just for fun or to make people laugh, if the person concerned can feel sufficient discomfort, it should stop immediately. I am not someone who easily cries or expresses my emotions in words, but that doesn’t mean I’m devoid of feelings. No one in this world has the right to ridicule me for public amusement. I sincerely hope my ex-spouse thrives and gains recognition through his own identity and authenticity—not by using me as a subject.”

Goo Hye-sun married actor Ahn Jae-hyun in 2016, but they divorced in 2020 following public disputes. The latest controversy stems from remarks made on the August 5 episode of “Jo Hyun-ah’s Ordinary Thursday Night”, where during a conversation with musician Muzie, Ahn alluded to having his own share of past difficulties, prompting laughter from the cast.
Currently, Goo is focusing on her studies and new ventures. She graduated at the top of her class from Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Film in February 2024 and was accepted into KAIST’s Graduate School of Science Journalism for a master’s degree in engineering in June of the same year. She also recently made headlines for launching a venture business.
