On July 20, a video titled “Summer Queen Soyou and Uhm Jung-hwa’s Hip-Up Secrets?” was uploaded to YouTube channel “Umaizing Uhm Jung-hwa TV”. During the video, Soyou shared honest thoughts about her career and the legacy of SISTAR.
When asked about her current relationship with her former SISTAR members, Soyou replied, “Until last year, we met each other quite often, but this year I’ve only met with Bora.” Her response highlighted a noticeable shift in dynamics since the group went their separate ways.
Reflecting on the time of SISTAR’s disbandment, Soyou confessed, “*I felt like I didn’t exist without SISTAR. When the company brought up contract talks, I said I would retire if SISTAR disbanded. It felt like if the group disappeared, so would I.” She added, “SISTAR was my youth. My entire twenties were defined by the group. Without SISTAR, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”
SISTAR debuted in 2010 and quickly rose to prominence with a string of hit songs like “So Cool”, “Shady Girl”, “How Dare You”, “Give It To Me”, “Touch My Body” and “SHAKE IT”, earning the title of “Summer Queens”. Despite their success, they officially announced their disbandment in May 2017 after seven years together.
Soyou’s confession reminds fans of the deep bonds and emotional weight that often accompany idol careers, especially after the spotlight fades.
