“I still can’t believe Zhao Wei showed up with Chen Kun.” That was the stunned reaction of a fan who witnessed a moment that rocked Chinese entertainment on April 30.
At the Beijing premiere of the new film “The One” (独一无二), Zhao Wei made a rare public appearance, standing beside Chen Kun, who serves as the mentor and backer of rising actress Zhang Jingyi, the movie’s lead star. While other notable celebrities like Song Jia, Wang Ziwen, Justin Huang, Lin Yi, Jenny Zeng, and Alina Zhang also attended, all eyes were on Zhao Wei and Chen Kun.

Fans at the venue shared reactions online, making posts such as, “Even with a mask on, I recognized Zhao Wei instantly. Her superstar aura is unmistakable,” “Zhao Wei’s presence is so powerful it’s impossible to ignore her,” and “It’s shocking that Zhao Wei appeared alongside Chen Kun.”

What made the moment so shocking was the long-standing belief that Zhao Wei and Chen Kun were no longer on good terms. When Chen Kun founded his entertainment agency and acting school, he invited Zhou Xun and Shu Qi but not Zhao Wei. His past interviews even suggested a strained friendship, as the actor once stated bluntly, “We were never that close to begin with, though our relationship is not as horrible as people thought”.
According to Chen Kun, Zhao Wei‘s bright and cheerful nature was something he once liked, but eventually became characteristics that pushed them apart. Chen Kun even publicly compared the female actress unfavorably to Zhou Xun, claiming Zhou’s sympathetic silence comforted him more than Zhao Wei’s persistent probing.

The actor also mentioned how Zhao Wei and Huang Xiaoming complement each other better since they are respectively tough and rough. Additionally, when asked whether he had watch Zhao Wei’s directorial debut “So Young” and show his support, Chen Kun flatly replied, “Why would I be obligated to do that?”
In fact, Chen Kun‘s harsh reactions and comparison between Zhao Wei and Zhou Xun has led to speculations that Zhao Wei had somewhat wronged Zhou Xun, to the point even Chen Xun turned his back towards the actress. As a result, Zhao Wei‘s reputation took a heavy blow.

So, when the two walked side by side at a recent event, it set social media ablaze. Some fans speculated this could be a sign that their friendship has quietly persisted, leaving comments such as, “Maybe they just kept things private all along,” one comment read. Notably, during Zhao Wei’s alleged blacklisting in 2023, Chen Kun never deleted old photos of her – a gesture that didn’t go unnoticed.
Their reunion felt both nostalgic and hopeful, as if a full-circle moment had arrived for the once-inseparable stars of My Fair Princess and countless fan memories.
