The “Kimetsu no Yaiba” (also known as “Demon Slayer”) anime is nearing its end, with the final arc depicting the dramatic conclusion of events inside the Infinity Castle. Fans are eagerly awaiting what will happen to Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the series’ main antagonist, Muzan.
The story of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” begins with one of the most tragic events in anime history. Tanjiro, a young boy who looks after his family, returns home one day to discover that his entire family has been massacred.

Tanjiro’s siblings and mother were killed and devoured by a demon. Only his younger sister, Nezuko, survived the slaughter but she was turned into a demon herself.
Why Did Muzan Kill Tanjiro’s Family in “Kimetsu no Yaiba”?
At the start of the series, most viewers assumed that the massacre of Tanjiro’s family was simply a tragic event caused by the ever-present demon threat that plagues the rural regions of Japan, where the story is set.
However, during one of Tanjiro’s first confrontations with Muzan, it becomes clear that this was not a random attack it was a deliberate and calculated act. The murder of Tanjiro’s family was orchestrated by Muzan, the main villain of the series.

As the story progresses, Tanjiro gradually uncovers the truth. Muzan, despite being the first and most powerful demon, is not invincible he still has a fatal weakness: sunlight. In his endless quest for immortality, Muzan has spent centuries creating more demons, trying to find a solution to this vulnerability.
In his experiments, Muzan injected a large amount of his own blood into Tanjiro’s family members, hoping that one of them might survive the transformation and evolve into a being immune to the sun — essentially, a cure for his own affliction.
Tanjiro’s mother and siblings could not survive the transformation and died. But Nezuko did survive, and even more astonishingly, she developed the very sunlight immunity Muzan had been seeking.
Why Nezuko Won’t Appear in the Early Stages of the Infinity Castle Arc

To understand Nezuko’s absence, we need to look back at the Swordsmith Village Arc, where Nezuko achieved one of the greatest feats in demon history resisting sunlight.
As a demon, Nezuko should have been severely burned or killed by exposure to sunlight. Yet, she was able to stand in the sun without injury. This made her incredibly valuable to Muzan, who sees her as the key to becoming a perfect, invincible being.
Because of this, the Demon Slayer Corps cannot risk bringing Nezuko directly into battle against Muzan. They fear he would capture her and extract her powers, completing his evolution and becoming truly unstoppable.
Thus, while she doesn’t appear early in the Infinity Castle Arc, Nezuko’s role remains pivotal both as Muzan’s ultimate target and as the hope for defeating him once and for all.
