On March 28, Chinese media outlet Sohu reported growing public anger over the handling of artists’ safety on the set of “Keep Running” (the Chinese version of “Running Man”). The controversy erupted after actress and main cast member (G)I-DLE Yuqi (Song Yuqi) collapsed from exhaustion during a marathon challenge late at night on March 27. She remained on the ground for approximately four minutes.

Public Outrage Over Keep Running’s Negligence

A widely circulated video of the incident revealed a concerning detail: while fellow cast members were present, no staff members from “Keep Running” rushed to check on Song Yuqi’s condition. Instead, filming continued as usual, and no medical professionals were called to provide immediate assistance, despite her clear physical distress and inability to walk without support.

The indifference shown by the production team has sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing the show of neglecting the safety of its artists. Netizens pointed out that “Keep Running” seemingly failed to learn from past tragedies—most notably, the shocking death of actor Godfrey Gao during the filming of “Chase Me” in 2019. At that time, Godfrey Gao collapsed from exhaustion after enduring a series of physically demanding challenges late at night. Despite his clear distress, the production team continued filming instead of stopping to assess his condition, ultimately leading to a fatal delay in medical intervention.

Song Yuqi Reassures Fans

Amid mounting concerns, Song Yuqi took to social media to update fans on her health.

“Please don’t worry too much! I’m fine. I used all my energy to sprint to the finish line during the challenge, and because I was so exhausted, I lay down to rest for a bit. I’ll be more mindful of my health in future recordings. Thank you so much for your concern,” she wrote.

Despite Song Yuqi’s reassurance and apparent attempt to defuse the controversy, public backlash against Keep Running remains intense. Many continue to criticize the show for disregarding artists’ well-being. As of now, “Keep Running” has yet to address the accusations of negligence and failure to ensure the safety of its participants.
