“Wongyeong” Set for tvN’s Monday-Tuesday Drama Slot Next Year “Additional 2 Prequel Episodes on TVING”

The drama "Wongyeong", starring Cha Joo-young and airing on tvN and TVING, will meet viewers with a total of 12 episodes, along with additional prequel content

According to IZE on Oct 7th, tvN·TVING’s original drama “Wongyeong” has been scheduled as a Monday-Tuesday drama on tvN, starting in January 2025. It will also be released simultaneously on TVING on the same days.

“Wongyeong” will consist of 12 episodes across both platforms, though the content may vary slightly. tvN will air the TV version, while TVING will offer the OTT version. Similar to previous tvN and TVING productions like “No Gain No Love”, some scenes may be edited or unedited depending on the platform. There are also discussions regarding a 19+ rating on TVING, depending on the content.

In addition to the 12 main episodes, “Wongyeong” will release two prequel episodes exclusively on TVING, not available on tvN. This separate release is expected to offer TVING subscribers a unique experience, adding another layer of entertainment. Viewers are curious about the prequel’s story and how it will enhance the overall narrative, offering something extra beyond the main episodes.

The tvN and TVING versions of “Wongyeong” were mentioned at the “2024 CJ Movie Forum ‘Navigating the New Paradigm'” held on Oct 4th at CGV Centum City in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

At the CJ Movie Forum, Studio Dragon’s CEO Jang Kyung-ik described “Wongyeong” as a work with 19+ elements, saying, “The format will be suited for tvN, while the 19+ version will be available on TVING.” This clarified the difference between the TV and OTT versions.

“Wongyeong” depicts the fiery life journey of Queen Wongyeong, who dreamed of a new world in the early Joseon Dynasty and made her husband Lee Bang-won the third king, and who co-founded the royal authority with him. Cha Joo-young will take on the lead role as Queen Wongyeong.
