[2024 BIFF] Roh Yoon-seo Mentions Kim Min-ju & Acting Challenges for “Hear Me: Our Summer”

Actress Roh Yoon-seo reflects on the cast chemistry of “Hear Me: Our Summer” and her character growth at the 2024 BIFF.

The 29th Busan International Film Festival’s outdoor stage at the Busan Cinema Center hosted a special greeting and open talk on the afternoon of October 3rd. The event featured the cast and crew of “Hear Me: Our Summer”, including director Cho Sun-ho and actors Hong Kyung, Roh Yoon-seo, and Kim Min-ju.

During the event, Roh Yoon-seo offered insight into her character Yeo-reum, describing her as “the eldest daughter who takes care of her younger sister while supporting her family. Through her encounter with Yong-jun, she experiences true love and begins to reflect on her own dreams and aspirations.”

This marks Roh Yoon-seo’s second appearance at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) following her previous visit for “20th Century Girl.”

She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m deeply thankful that there’s a place like this where we can discuss movies. Watching the movie in the theater today made me nervous in a different way. I hope many people will come to see it when it’s released.”

Speaking about her co-star Hong Kyung, Roh Yoon-seo shared an endearing observation, “When I first met Hong Kyung, he had long hair, but he cut it short for our makeup trial. His pure and innocent nature made me think, ‘I’m going to lose to his purity—this could be dangerous!'”

She went on to praise his dedication, recalling a particular scene, stating, “During an internal screening, there was a moment where Hong Kyung’s character was practicing signing his name before meeting Yeo-reum. It wasn’t in the script, but his spontaneous practice of sign language showed how much research he had done. It really brought the character to life and impressed me.”

Roh Yoon-seo also commended her co-star Kim Min-ju’s performance, saying, “Despite this being her debut, she mastered both sign language and swimming, delivering an incredible performance. She’s truly remarkable. Her sense of responsibility during each shoot and our many conversations showed me she’s a serious actress, and her dedication was inspiring.”

When asked about what drew her to the project, Roh Yoon-seo explained, “I had been eager to work on a youth romance film like this, and the script was exceptional. After watching the original film, which was also fantastic, I was curious to see how our version of “Hear Me: Our Summer” would turn out. That curiosity ultimately led me to join the project.”

“Hear Me: Our Summer” follows the heartwarming story of Yong-jun (Hong Kyung), who pursues love with unwavering determination, Yeo-reum (Roh Yoon-seo), who discovers the meaning of true love, and her supportive younger sister Ga-eul (Kim Min-ju). The film is set to release on November 6th.
