Myung Se-bin Explains Her Short Marriage: “I Felt Pushed Into It”

Beloved actress Myung Se-bin opened up about the pressures of fame that led her to a hasty marriage and quick divorce on a variety show.

Myung Se-bin, who debuted in 1996 through singer Shin Seung-hun’s music video, quickly won the public’s hearts with her pure image. She rose to great popularity through the KBS drama “Paper Crane” and went on to star in numerous works such as “Purity”, “Ghost”, “Into the Sun”, “Hellcats”, and “Still Marry Me”.

In a candid appearance on a variety show, Myung Se-bin opened up about the circumstances surrounding her divorce. “A dating rumor surfaced while we were still getting to know each other,” she explained. “I couldn’t deny that we were dating, so when I contacted a trusted reporter for advice, he suggested, ‘It would be better to just admit it.'”

She continued, “Since we were both of marriageable age, the news of our relationship was exaggerated into marriage rumors. At that time, I was young and scared of negative press, but I felt like I had to take responsibility, so I felt pushed into the marriage.”

Myung Se-bin went on to share, “It can be lonely to be alone, but it’s really hard to be lonely even when you’re with someone. Everyone experiences this to some extent, but I couldn’t handle it. The reality was different from the marriage I had imagined.”

Following her divorce, the actress took a hiatus from the entertainment industry, only returning to work in 2010 through the SBS daily drama “Three Sisters”.

Despite these challenges, Myung Se-bin, once known as “The Nation’s First Love,” has successfully reinvented herself as a versatile actress. Her recent performance in the JTBC drama “Doctor Cha” has been particularly well-received, showcasing her growth and adaptability as an actress.
