In the latest episode of SBS’s “Dilema Game 2”, which aired on September 19th, director Shin Woo-seok appeared as a guest and talked about Hong Kong actor Tony Leung.
Shin Woo-seok once cast Tony Leung for the music video for New Jeans‘ hit song “Cool With You.”
Shin Woo-seok revealed the behind-the-scenes story, saying, “I wrote a letter to make an offer. CEO Min Hee-jin delivered it to Tony Leung and received a call that he wanted the role.”
Host Hong Jin-kyung wondered, “How is he in real life? Is he taciturn?” and Shin Woo-seok replied, “He is much more shy than I thought.” Hong Jin-kyung was amazed, saying, “How did such a shy man act in ‘Lust, Caution’?”
Shin Woo-seok said, “Tony Leung said he liked the work and wanted to appear as a no guarantee,” and Lee Yong-jin exclaimed, “Such a great actor is indeed different.”
Shin Woo-seok began telling the life story of Leung, saying, “Tony Leung’s life is very similar to Hong Kong movies.”
In the past, while Tony Leung was filming, he received a phone call, saying that that his girlfriend Carina Lau had disappeared. She had been kidnapped by gunmen, but later came home safely.
Twelve years later, a magazine published sensitive photos of Carina Lau, which were taken by the kidnappers at the time. People thought that Leung would leave the Lau because of the controversy.
In response, he spoke his mind, saying, “No matter what happens, my love for Carina Lau will not change.” At the time, Tony Leung had won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 and was reaching his peak as an actor.
