19+ Exposure and Same-Sex Scenes: Meet the Actress Playing Sa-bi in “Queen Woo”

Actress Oh Ha-nee, who took on bold roles including explicit and same-sex love scenes in “Queen Woo”, opened up about her experiences.

On September 16, Sports Today reported on an interview with Oh Ha-nee.

The TVING original drama “Queen Woo” is a historical action series that follows the 24 hours of Woo-hee (Jeon Jong-seo), who struggles to become a queen after the death of Goguryeo’s 9th king, Go Nam-mu (Ji Chang-wook). The story revolves around the queen’s efforts to retain her position through the practice of “Levirate marriage” (a custom where a younger brother marries his deceased brother’s widow to continue the family line) after Go Nam-mu’s death.

Oh Ha-nee plays the role of Sa-bi, a palace maid who interprets omens and sets auspicious dates while nurturing secret desires and revealing hidden palace stories for a price.

The drama “Queen Woo” has stirred controversy with its explicit scenes, particularly the same-sex love scenes in which Oh Ha-nee is prominently featured. In Episode 2 of Part 1, she delivers a striking performance alongside Queen Woo-sun (Jeong Yu-mi) in a scene where Woo-sun, under the influence of a potion, mistakes Sa-bi for Go Nam-mu and engages in a relationship with her. This scene lasts approximately 1 minute and 54 seconds.

When asked about the reactions to “Queen Woo”, Oh Ha-nee responded with a shy smile, “I’ve been checking out all the reactions. There’s a group chat with my friends where everyone is amazed. I’ve received many direct messages saying ‘I watched it so well’ and ‘I’ve been waiting for this work.’”

Surprisingly, she revealed that she wasn’t worried about the explicit scenes. “Rather than worrying about the exposure, I felt it was important to play Sa-bi well because it is a crucial role. I wasn’t overly concerned about the exposure or burden. My only focus was on doing a good job,” she said. “However, it was a bit upsetting that it seemed like people weren’t interested in my acting. When I received feedback from some people saying ‘Regardless of the exposure, your acting was impressive,’ it was comforting.”

Born in 1990, Oh Ha-nee has captivated audiences through SBS’s “The Killing Vote” and MBN’s “Perfect Marriage Revenge”. Before becoming an actress, she also prepared to be an idol.

The TVING original series “Queen Woo” released Part 1 on August 29 and Part 2 on September 12.
