BLACKPINK’s Jisoo & Seo In-guk Draw Mixed Reactions as K-drama Co-stars

As BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and actor Seo In-guk are announced as co-stars for an upcoming K-drama, mixed reactions pour in.

On September 10, it was announced that BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and actor Seo In-guk will become co-star for the upcoming K-drama “Monthly Boyfriend” (tentative translation).

While most fans are cheering for Jisoo’s new acting project and feel pleased about the cast, however, many netizens show mixed reactions.

With a star-studded lineup, one might expect fans to be excited and eagerly await the film’s release, but the reaction has been the opposite. The reason for the disappointment stems from the perceived acting gap between the two main leads.

Seo In Guk has been active in the film industry for over a decade and is highly regarded for his diverse acting skills and ability to convey emotions effectively in every project. His recent dramas, such as *Death’s Game*, *Café Minamdang*, and *Doom at Your Service*, have captivated audiences with his realistic acting and strong chemistry with co-stars.

In contrast, Jisoo only recently started her acting career with Snowdrop. While the drama garnered significant attention, her acting performance did not meet expectations. She was criticized for her lackluster expressions and emotionless eyes. Although Jisoo’s acting may have improved after participating in Newtopia, a Coupang Play production, and another film based on the web novel Omniscient Reader, both projects have yet to be released, making it difficult to assess her growth.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • I like Seo In-guk’s acting so I watch all of his projects, but Jisoo’s acting is a bit of a barrier.. Please do a good job this time
  • Jisoo…I hope her acting has improved……..
  • Jisoo, please practice acting a lot
  • Ah… I watch all of Seo In Guk’s works… I really hate it when he gets paired up with someone who can’t act
  • They look good together, but the acting is a bit…

On the other hand, “Monthly Boyfriend” will be Jisoo’s 4th acting project following the K-drama “Snowdrop”, the upcoming series “Newtopia” (formerly known as “Influenza”), and the movie adaptation of famous web-novel “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint”.

Meanwhile, it will be Seo In-guk’s 1st project following the 2023 web-series “Death’s Game”.
