(G)I-DLE’s Agency Takes Strong Action Against Deepfake Distribution: “No Leniency”

Cube Entertainment, the agency of (G)I-DLE, has announced its intent to take legal action against deepfake content.

On September 3, Cube Entertainment issued an official statement on its social media, stating, “We have confirmed that malicious deepfake content targeting our artists is being circulated online. This is a serious criminal act that severely damages the reputation of the artists and causes them significant mental distress. We consider this situation very grave.”

The statement continued, “We are currently monitoring the situation continuously and gathering evidence. We will take strong legal action against the creators and distributors of these deepfakes, with no leniency.”

Cube Entertainment further emphasized, “We will continue to do our utmost to protect the dignity and rights of our artists. We will respond firmly to all illegal activities that harm the reputation of our artists.”

Deepfake technology, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create manipulated images, has recently become a significant social issue due to its misuse in illegal and harmful content. It was even recently revealed that over 50% of deepfake sex content are Korean female celebrities, prompting anger among fans.

Previously, other agencies such as YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Woollim Entertainment have also indicated their intent to take legal action against the misuse of deepfake technology.
