On Sep 3rd, Han So-hee‘s agency, 9ato Entertainment, released a statement saying, “The news about actress Han So-hee’s mother that was reported yesterday (Sep 2nd) is an extremely personal matter involving her mother. Han So-hee herself learned about it through the news and is feeling indescribably devastated.“
However, the agency clarified that there is no connection between the actress and the incident. The agency stated, “We want to reiterate that this incident is entirely unrelated to the actress and was solely her mother’s independent action. We apologize for delivering uncomfortable news unrelated to her work.“
On Sep 2nd, the police reported that Han So-hee’s mother, identified as Shin, had been arrested on charges of operating illegal gambling establishments. Since 2021, Shin had allegedly set up and operated 12 illegal gambling venues and websites nationwide, including in Ulsan, using “proxy owners”.
This is not the first time a controversy involving Han So-hee’s mother has surfaced. In 2020, it was reported that Shin had disappeared with lodge money, and in 2022, she was sued for borrowing money from an acquaintance and failing to repay it.
At that time, the agency also clarified, “Her mother used a bank account in Han So-hee’s name to borrow money. When Han So-hee was a minor, her mother opened the account without her knowledge and used it to borrow money. Han So-hee has no plans to take responsibility for the related debts.“
