“Emperor-Like Security” Byeon Woo-seok Departs Neatly “First Overseas Departure After Controversy”

On August 29th, Byeon Woo-seok departed for Sydney, Australia through Incheon International Airport to attend an overseas schedule.

Earlier, Byeon Woo-seok faced criticism for excessive security measures. On July 12th, while departing from Incheon International Airport for Hong Kong for his first solo fan meeting tour “2024 Byeon Woo-seok Asia Fan Meeting Tour – Summer Letter”, some security guards blocked a public gate for 10 minutes, checked the boarding passes of lounge users and shone flashlights at regular passengers, which led to heavy criticism.

The situation escalated when discrepancies arose between the statements of the security company’s representative and Incheon International Airport officials, leading to accusations of lying. Byeon Woo-seok’s agency issued an apology, stating, “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to airport users during our artist’s departure. We requested that the security guards stop shining flashlights at airport users once we became aware of it. Although we were unaware of the gate and boarding pass checks at the scene, we fully acknowledge our moral responsibility for the unpleasant incidents that occurred during the security process and apologize to the affected users.

A month later, Byeon Woo-seok made his first public appearance at Incheon International Airport since the controversy, as he prepared to depart for Sydney, Australia. He arrived at the airport on time and bowed in appreciation to fans who cheered for him while he waited at the crosswalk.

As he walked towards the airport gate, he was protected by security guards, but notably, the number of guards was significantly reduced compared to the previous “emperor-like security” incident. The security guards also refrained from using flashlights and instead focused on politely guiding the crowd with phrases like, “Please wait a moment“, “Be careful” and “We’re passing through.” They also cautioned those filming while walking backward with, “Watch your step behind you.”

Byeon Woo-seok also simplified his fan service. Previously, he was known for shaking hands with fans and accepting gifts at the airport. However, this time, he simply turned his head slightly to acknowledge fans’ cheers and quickly moved on. Unlike before, he did not stop by the lounge but proceeded directly to boarding after completing check-in, drawing attention.

Meanwhile, Byeon Woo-seok made his debut in the 2016 tvN drama “Dear My Friends” and gained significant attention earlier this year for his role as Ryu Sun-jae in tvN’s “Lovely Runner”.
