Jung Eun-chae, who played as prosecutor Kang So-young, in the new ENA drama “Your Honor”, is being criticized for her awkward acting. Fans are saying that other cast members such as Son Hyun-joo, Kim Myung-min, and Jo Dan-ro create no acting hole, but but their interest in the drama was halved because of Jung Eun-chae, who appeared from the 5th to 6th episodes. Because the actress has had 14 years of experience, many are saying it might be due to poor character development or poor directing.
Prosecutor Kang So-young, played by Jeong Eun-chae in “Your Honor,” is the epitome of the righteous prosecutor that targets the chaebol group of gangster. She is a strong and upright person with the mission of eradicating corruption. The scenes where she visited Chairman Kim Kang-heon and warned him and where she called the prosecution and police officers, who became spies of Woo-won Group, “Rat boys,” raise fans’ expectations.
The problem, however, is that the show tried to show her character in a compressive manner, making her wear a short coat, smoke cigarettes and swear. Actors and actresses need to try different styles and costumes to match their characters before the drama’s shooting, but they seem to have neglected such drafting process or made the wrong direction in “Your Honor.” However, if Jung’s acting was excellent, such decorative elements would have been blurred off, but her acting could not make it up.
While there are some comments complementing her visuals, most point out that they are disappointed. “Kang So-young is so pretty but doesn’t match her character,” “What’s wrong with her acting as a prosecutor?,” “Do they think smoking in a short coat makes her look strong?” and “The problem is more about directing.”
Jung Eun-chae, who debuted in 2010 with the film “Haunters,” has appeared in 12 films so far, except for her special appearance. Following the Apple TV drama “Pachinko Season 2” released on August 23, her next work, tvN’s “Jungnyeon: The Star Is Born,” starring Kim Tae-ri, will also be aired on October 12. Notably, “Your Honor” was produced by Take One Company, owned by Jung Min-chae, Jung’s brother.
