Earlier, on August 28, Taeil’s agency, SM Entertainment, issued an official press release confirming that Taeil had been criminally charged with a sexual crime and announced his departure from the group.
SM Entertainment stated, “We recently confirmed that Taeil was criminally charged in connection with a sexual crime. While verifying the facts, we recognized the seriousness of the matter and decided that he could no longer continue his activities with the group. After discussions with Taeil, we decided that he would leave the group.”
They added, “Taeil is cooperating fully with the police investigation, and we will provide further updates as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for the trouble caused by our artist.”
Taeil debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT’s first unit, NCT U. He has also been active in the main NCT group and as a member of NCT 127.
