On the August 26th episode of Channel A’s “Best Friend Documentary: Table for 4”, actress Lee Seung-yeon invited her close friends Yoon Da-hoon, Hong Seok-cheon and Kim Ji-seong to share a meal and various stories. While discussing her love life, Lee Seung-yeon asked Hong Seok-cheon, “How’s your love life these days?” This prompted Hong Seok-cheon to candidly talk about his past relationship experiences.
Hong Seok-cheon responded, “You know how difficult it is to live as Hong Seok-cheon’s partner. I’m so grateful to the person who endures me.” Lee Seung-yeon described Hong Seok-cheon as someone who “devotes his whole self to love“, to which Hong Seok-cheon agreed, saying, “I’m a total romantic.” Lee Seung-yeon further mentioned “You even came out because of love. You’re truly a love enthusiast“, highlighting Hong Seok-cheon’s deep passion for love.
Hong Seok-cheon also opened up about his relationship with his ex-boyfriend from the Netherlands. He explained, “I lived with my Dutch boyfriend for three and a half years. Although the Netherlands has an open culture towards LGBTQ+ people, our country doesn’t, so there were many conflicts between us.” He recounted, “Before dating me, he didn’t know about his own identity. He saw me at a club, fell in love at first sight, and started a relationship with me. But he was married at the time, eventually got divorced, and started a new relationship with me.”
However, the relationship wasn’t easy. Hong Seok-cheon revealed, “We fled to New York and lived together, but eventually, he met someone new. I tried to maintain the relationship by sending him money from Korea.” Despite his efforts, the relationship ended, but Hong Seok-cheon continued to send money to his ex-boyfriend for a year after they broke up.
Kim Ji-seong expressed sympathy, and Hong Seok-cheon remarked, “I’m someone who stakes everything in love.” He added jokingly, “After hearing this story, someone might confess to me, and I won’t say no.” Yoon Da-hoon humorously responded “But not just anyone can come. I’ll be screening them“, showing support and protecting Hong Seok-cheon.
