Hyun Bin & Kim Sun-ah to Reunite in 2024 Version of “My Lovely Sam Soon”

On August 22, Wavve unveiled the opening poster and teaser video for the 2024 version of the MBC drama “My Lovely Sam Soon”, kicking off the ‘New Classic’ project.

“My Name is Kim Sam-soon 2024” will be released on September 6.

Referred to as “the start of rom-com” and a “rom-com legend,” “My Lovely Sam Soon” gained national popularity when it aired in 2005 with its groundbreaking approach. It challenged beauty standards, featured a female lead who actively pursued both her career and love, delivered straightforward and honest dialogue, and ended with a realistic open conclusion.

The released poster features a lovely ‘reopening’ invitation from patissier Kim Sam-soon (played by Kim Sun-ah), who caused a massive sensation at the time. The commemorative cake for the ‘2024’ version, along with the tagline “Shall we pretend to date one more time?” draws attention.

The teaser video shows the sweet back-and-forth between Kim Sam-soon and Hyun Jin-heon, upgraded 19 years later. The confident female lead Kim Sam-soon, the charming yet unlikable ‘bad boy’ Hyun Jin-heon, and a romance that starts with a contract – elements frequently seen in modern rom-coms – are all present.

The 2024 version of  “My Lovely Sam Soon”, a cornerstone of romantic comedies, has been restructured into an 8-episode series, each 60 minutes long, from the original 16 episodes. Wavve explained that the drama enhances the main characters’ storylines while adding cliffhanger endings to increase engagement. The show has been upgraded for modern viewing with improved video and sound quality, subtitles, and OTT format for better accessibility.

A press conference for “”My Lovely Sam Soon” 2024 version is scheduled for September 5, ahead of its release. Actors Kim Sun-ah, Jung Ryeo-won, and director Kim Yoon-cheol will attend, while Hyun Bin will be absent.

Meanwhile, Wavve is working on the ‘New Classic Project’, which will recreate original works like “My Lovely Sam Soon” and “I’m Sorry, I Love You” with key staff members. They are also preparing to upscale classic content to 4K quality for clearer visuals. The ‘New Classic Project Part 1’ lineup will feature 4K versions of “Goong”, “Full House”, and “Coffee Prince”, which will be released alongside “My Lovely Sam Soon”.
