BTS’s Suga Bowed To Apologize For Drunk Driving+Promised To Cooperate In Police’s Investigation

According to the police, Suga plans to appear at the Seoul Yongsan Police Station after finishing his duties as a public service worker this afternoon. This will be 17 days after the controversy regarding his alleged drunk driving first emerged.

The police plan to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the drunk driving incident and examine related charges.

On the evening of August 23, BTS’s Suga appeared at the Yongsan Police Station to cooperate with the investigation of his recent drunk driving allegation. Upon arriving at the police station, Suga bowed his head and apologized to the press, “First of all, I am very sorry. I sincerely reflect on myself for causing great disappointment to many fans and many others. I will sincerely cooperate in the investigation. Once again, I am sorry.”

Previously, a media outlet reported that Suga was expected to appear at the Yongsan Police Station on August 22nd, but this was later found to be untrue. During a regular briefing on August 19th, the police stated that Suga would be questioned privately without a photo line.

Suga was involved in an incident on August 6th in the Yongsan district, where he was driving an electric scooter while intoxicated and fell over on his own.

The police, who discovered Suga after he had fallen, noticed his intoxicated state and conducted a breathalyzer test on the spot. He was subsequently booked the following day on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

Suga’s side initially stated that he had consumed alcohol at a dinner before riding an electric kickboard home. However, CCTV footage later revealed that Suga was indeed driving an electric scooter, leading to the release of an additional apology.

Although Suga claimed he had only consumed one beer, his blood alcohol content was found to be 0.227%, a level considered highly intoxicated, far exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.

With the upcoming police questioning, attention is focused on whether Suga will make a more detailed statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Suga has been serving as a public service worker since September last year and is expected to be discharged in June next year.
