The highly anticipated second season of the anime Shangri-La Frontier is set to premiere on October 13, airing every Sunday at 5:00 PM across 28 networks on the MBS/TBS network. Alongside this announcement, the anime has unveiled a new key visual and revealed additional cast members, including Yuka Terasaki as Akitsu Akane and Natsuki Hanae as Xecleu.
The newly released key visual captures a dynamic and intense scene where main characters Sunraku, Emul, and Saiga-0 face off against the fearsome nocturnal threat, Lycaon. The visual also introduces new characters Akitsu Akane and Xecleu, adding to the excitement and energy of the upcoming season.
In celebration of the upcoming season, the anime’s first season, consisting of all 25 episodes, will be made available for a limited two-week period on streaming platforms ABEMA and YouTube (Full Anime TV and Shanfro Channel).
Shangri-La Frontier follows the story of Rakuro Hizutome, an unconventional gamer with a passion for so-called “crappy games.” When he decides to take on the challenge of Shangri-La Frontier, a highly acclaimed game boasting over 30 million players, his gaming journey takes a thrilling turn. The original manga is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, where it made history by becoming the first work to achieve a four-crown victory in reader surveys. The manga has since surpassed 7.5 million copies in circulation.
Yuka Terasaki, who will voice Akitsu Akane, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled to join Shangri-La Frontier as Akitsu Akane! I’m excited to bring a lot of energy and fun to the lively and straightforward character of Akane-chan. Shanfro is an anime that immerses you as if you’re actually playing the game alongside Sunraku! I’m really looking forward to ‘playing’ as Akitsu Akane in the second season!”
Natsuki Hanae, who will voice Xecleu, shared his thoughts: “When I was in elementary school, I discovered online games, including MMOs, and I’ve been completely immersed in them ever since, dedicating most of my youth to them. Shangri-La Frontier is a game I’d love to play! It feels like a dream world! I’m grateful to have the role of Xecleu, and I hope to bring out his best qualities, making him a memorable NPC for players who spend a long time in the same game. Please look forward to it!”
