JTBC’s “Newsroom” Criticized Over Incorrect Report on BTS’s Suga’s CCTV: “Currently Reviewing”

On August 7, JTBC’s “Newsroom” aired an exclusive report, claiming that Suga was caught by the police while driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol. The broadcast included CCTV footage showing someone resembling Suga riding a personal mobility device on a road in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

However, it was later revealed that the person in the video was not Suga. The individual in the footage was reportedly driving in a different direction from where Suga was headed, specifically to his residence at Nine One Hannam.

As the controversy grew, JTBC removed or made private all related videos from their official channels, including YouTube. The controversial CCTV footage was also replaced with other images in the replay video available on the “Newsroom” website.

Even though the video was deleted, fans expressed strong backlash. There were demands for an apology from “Newsroom” for mistakenly broadcasting CCTV footage of someone other than Suga. In response, JTBC told OSEN that they are “currently reviewing” the situation.

Meanwhile, it was reported that on the night of August 6, Suga was returning home while driving a personal mobility device under the influence of alcohol when he fell. After being handed over to the police, a breathalyzer test indicated his blood alcohol level was above 0.08%, the threshold for license cancellation. Suga later issued an apology, stating, “I am deeply sorry to disappoint everyone. Although there were no damages or injured parties, this incident is entirely my responsibility, and I sincerely apologize to everyone.”
