The Seoul Central District Court’s 18th Criminal Division will hold a final trial on the 12th for the operator of “Taldeoksooyongso,” who is currently detained on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (Defamation).
Initially, the court planned to hold the final trial on the 15th of last month, but it was postponed because the defendant did not appear. The defense attorney for “Taldeoksooyongso” explained the absence, stating, “After undergoing surgery to remove a finger tumor in May, he experienced severe pain and required medical attention.” The judge expressed frustration, stating, “Submitting a non-appearance notice on the day of the trial is quite disconcerting for the court,” and warned, “If the defendant fails to appear at the next hearing, an arrest warrant will be issued.”
“Taldeoksooyongso” is accused of defaming Kang Daniel in a 2022 video titled “The Promiscuous Private Life of the Nation’s Boyfriend, Actor-Idol,” among other charges of spreading false information about various celebrities.
The operator was also indicted for defamation by spreading false information about IVE’s Jang Wonyoung. He created a video falsely claiming, “Jang Wonyoung’s jealousy caused a fellow trainee’s debut to be canceled,” and posted it on his channel. Jang Wonyoung’s side won a 100 million KRW damages lawsuit against “Taldeoksooyongso.” However, the defendant has appealed the ruling.
