Park Jung-min and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo Star in Zombie Romance Drama ‘Newtopia’

On the 1st, entertainment streaming service Coupang Play released stills from the new drama Newtopia (written by Han Jin-won and Ji Ho-jin / directed by Yoon Sung-hyun).

Newtopia tells the story of a soldier, Jae-yun (played by Park Jung-min), and his girlfriend, Young-joo (played by Jisoo), who run towards each other through the zombie-infested streets of Seoul.

Park Jung-min, known for his outstanding performances in films like The Drug King, The Drug King, and Start-Up, will play the role of Jae-yun, a late-blooming soldier who feels anxiety about the future. Jisoo, who has been making waves with her role in Snowdrop and is also set to appear in the film Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, will portray Young-joo, Jae-yun’s girlfriend and a new employee from an engineering background.

In Newtopia, Park Jung-min and Jisoo will portray lovers who are running solely towards each other amidst a dangerous, zombie-filled Seoul.

The released stills show Jae-yun facing the zombie crisis during his military service, with a tense and shocked expression that grabs attention. His junior, In-ho (played by Lim Sung-jae), shows an even more surprised look, reflecting the perilous situation. Meanwhile, Young-joo appears somewhat serene in an alley, further piquing curiosity about the story.

Director Yoon Sung-hyun, who made a significant impact with his debut film The Guard and showcased his unique style in Time to Hunt, is venturing into a fresh world where apocalypse and romance collide with this first series. His collaboration with Park Jung-min for the third time, following The Guard and Time to Hunt, adds to the anticipation.

Screenwriter Han Jin-won, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Parasite, and Ji Ho-jin, known for the stylish action of The Killers’ Shopping Mall, are crafting a fresh narrative about young love that must prevail even in the face of a zombie apocalypse.
