Aftermath of Dating Hwang Jung-eum: Athlete Lover Faces Extreme Online Comments
Basketball player Kim Jong-kyu, who is in a relationship with actress Hwang Jung-eum, is facing numerous malicious comments.
On July 22, Hwang Jung-eum’s agency, Y-One Entertainment, responded to reports of her dating a basketball star, stating, “It is true that they recently developed feelings for each other, but it is still a cautious situation.”
Subsequently, SPOTV News reported that the basketball star in question is Kim Jong-kyu. Although Hwang Jung-eum‘s side refrained from confirming, citing privacy concerns, multiple witness accounts have lent credence to the dating rumors.
Born in 1991, Kim Jong-kyu is seven years younger than Hwang Jung-eum, who was born in 1984. He stands at 206 cm, which is about 40 cm taller than Hwang Jung-eum.
Following the dating rumors, Kim Jong-kyu’s social media received mixed reactions from netizens. Some left supportive messages like “Have a beautiful relationship,” “Congratulations, love knows no borders or age,” and “You are blessed to be with Hwang Jung-eum.” However, there were also many negative comments, such as “You need to get a grip,” and “I liked you, but now I’m disappointed.”
Hwang Jung-eum previously married professional golfer and businessman Lee Young-don in 2016, and they had their first son in 2017. Although they filed for divorce mediation in September 2020, they reconciled in July 2021 and had their second son in March 2022.
However, in February, Hwang Jung-eum’s side announced, “After much deliberation, we have decided that it is no longer possible to maintain the marriage, and we are proceeding with the divorce lawsuit.” At the time, Hwang Jung-eum posted a photo of Lee Young-don on her social media with a cryptic message implying he was the cause of their split.
In April, Hwang Jung-eum mistakenly identified a woman as her husband’s mistress and publicly shared her photo. The woman, identified as A, claimed she had never met Lee Young-don and reported suffering from malicious comments and other damages due to Hwang Jung-eum’s actions. Although Hwang Jung-eum attempted to reach a settlement with A, it fell through, leading A to file a defamation lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum.
