“The Return of Superman” unveiled a pre-release video for the new episode scheduled to air on the evening of July 14th.
In the video, Choi Min-hwan confessed, “I want to become a father like my Dad”, revealing sincere feelings he has never said before.
Choi Min-hwan married former La Boum member Yulhee in his 20s and has three children. However, the couple divorced last year after five years of marriage. After their divorce, Choi Min-hwan takes custody of the three kids, including a son and twin daughters.
That day, Choi Min-hwan had a drink with his father Choi Byung-chan and shared an honest conversation.
There was an awkward silence between them at first, but Choi Min-hwan decided to initiate the talk. He shared, “After the children were born, what came to my mind first was, ‘This is how Dad must have felt when raising me’”.
Choi Min-hwan added, “The more I raise the kids, the more I understand your heart”. In response, his father said, “Don’t all parents feel the same?”.
Later in an interview with the production team, Choi Min-hwan said, “When I decided to divorce, I didn’t tell my Dad first”, adding “Upon hearing the news, he said, ‘You did well. You must have thought about it a lot. I only hope that you can live well and I respect your opinion’. I could feel his sincerity”.
He continued, “Like my Dad said, I also think I should be nice to my children. I hope the kids, Jaeyul, Arin and Ahyoon, consider me a good father when they grow up, as much as I admire my father”.
MC Choi Ji-woo also commented, “I think, ‘I want to become a father like my Dad’, is also the compliment that makes your Dad happy the most”.
